An Evening of Creative and Critical Discourse Inspired by James Baldwin’s Blues for Mister Charlie
9
LOCATION: TheaterSpace
Explore and experience the impact of James Baldwin’s play, Blues for Mister Charlie, through conversation and staged readings in this special one-night-only event!
Presented in partnership by George Mason University’s School of Theater and the Alan Cheuse International Writers Center at George Mason University, this special event invites guests to develop a deeper understanding of Baldwin’s second play, and it’s impact on today’s theatrical landscape. Djola Branner, director of George Mason’s School of Theater, will share insights about the play and how it’s impacted writers working in the theater today.
A cast of George Mason students, alumni, and faculty will then present a staged reading of excerpts from The Ballad of Emmet Till by Ifa Bayeza. This event will immediately follow the opening reception of Nothing Personal: A Collaboration In Black and White in the Gillespie Gallery at George Mason. Both events are part of The Baldwin100 celebration at George Mason, honoring the 100th anniversary of James Baldwin’s birth.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged.
