Empowered Legacy Workshop Series: Preserving Veteran Stories Through Artifacts

Hylton Performing Arts Ctr, CVPA Shared Classroom

Mar
5 - 19

This 3-week workshop series, led by retired U.S. Coast Guard Veteran and professional archivist Tina Claflin, will guide participants through the process of organizing and preserving a military service history using the collected artifacts of service.

Do you have items that you have collected throughout your service that tell a story that you want remembered, or have you inherited artifacts from another service member and aren’t sure what to do with them? Learn ways to connect those stories to the artifacts to preserve them for the next generation of memory-keepers. This workshop series guides participants through the process of organizing and preserving a military service history using the collected artifacts of service. Steps include creating a service timeline to establish a framework of dates and events; considering the objects collected and the stories they tell; and creating a Service Story Card to ensure those artifacts retain their context and connect the story for generations to come.

This workshop series is open and FREE to Veterans, Servicemembers, military family members, and military caregivers. Children ages 14 and up may participate alongside a parent/guardian. Space is limited. Registration for this workshop opens mid-January 2026.

Please reference our information sheet for details, including minimum age requirement and community policies regarding Veterans and the Arts on-site workshops. More information about the on-site workshop will be provided to registrants by email.
