Cinema Serenade
Christopher Zimmerman, conductor

This performance is a co-presentation between Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and the Center for the Arts, as part of the Great Performances at Mason season.

The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra joins legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman for Cinema Serenade, an evening celebrating some of the most beloved music in film history. This promises to be an unforgettable concert where the magic of cinema meets the brilliance of a live orchestra. Perlman first recorded many of the works with composer John Williams on the 1997 album Cinema Serenade. Conducted by Christopher Zimmerman, this Center for the Arts co-presentation showcases the orchestra’s rich sound alongside Perlman’s incomparable lyricism. A 16-time Grammy winner, four-time Emmy winner, and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Perlman remains one of the world’s most cherished musicians. As The New York Times writes, “Perlman’s violin sings with unmatched warmth and humanity.” The program also includes Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, the iconic tone poem made famous by its depiction of a cosmic sunrise in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

This performance is appropriate for all ages.
