Fall for the Book and Mason Exhibitions are pleased to welcome A.B. Spellman to Gillespie Gallery in the Art and Design Building for a poetry reading amongst the exhibition of the famous photobook collaboration 'Nothing Personal' by James Baldwin and Richard Avedon.
Spellman almost certainly knew Baldwin, as he knew Coltrane, Amiri Baraka, and every Black artist, not just as a founder of the Black Arts movement but as part of his later work for the NEA. Many of his poems are for painters. He’s 89 years old, and he’s a dazzling reader and presence!
