U.S. Navy Band Commodores with special guest Walter Smith III
The 46th International Saxophone Symposium, hosted by the U.S. Navy Band, features over 150 performances, masterclasses and lectures designed for musicians of all ages. First hosted in 1978, the International Saxophone Symposium features world-renowned saxophonists while highlighting the prominence of the saxophone in both classical and jazz literature.
Saturday night's concert presents the Navy Band Commodores jazz ensemble with special guest Walter Smith III in an evening of big band and jazz music. Past soloists with the Commodores have included Eddie Daniels, Branford Marsalis, Donny McCaslin, Chris Potter, and Grover Washington, Jr.
This event is open to the public and no tickets are required. The U.S. Navy Concert Band will also perform a concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9 with featured soloists Makoto Hondo, Steven Banks, and Musician 1st Class Harrison Clarke.
