Led by the Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi, Compagnie HERVÉ KOUBI makes its thrilling Center for the Arts debut. Drawing from Algerian and Mediterranean culture, the company combines contemporary and urban dance, capoeira, and martial arts with powerful imagery and entrancing choreography. The New York Times declares, “They fly. They spin. They change how you see the amazing!" In this latestprogram, Sol Invictus—named after the “invincible sun” deity—dancers defy gravity to the music of Swedish composer Mikael Karlsson, as well as excerpts by Steve Reich and digital composer Maxime Bodson. “Compagnie HERVÉ KOUBI renders movement into poetry” (The New Yorker).
