The Manassas Symphony Orchestra (MSO) returns to the heart of the symphonic tradition with a program of timeless masterworks, featuring acclaimed local pianist Lisa Tyler. Tyler joins the MSO for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor, a masterpiece renowned for its stormy, Sturm und Drang intensity. This rare and dramatic departure for Mozart offers a perfect vehicle for Tyler’s technical precision and expressive depth. The program’s second half is dedicated to Antonin Dvorák’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major. A cornerstone of the Romantic era, the symphony is a lush, lyrical celebration of the natural world, drawing deeply from the folk melodies of Dvorák’s native Bohemia. To open the evening, the orchestra offers a festive nod to the first Saturday in May with Ferde Grofé’s Kentucky Derby Suite, capturing the pageantry and thundering excitement of “The Run for the Roses” in a colorful, cinematic prelude.
